Reverend William Richard Ayers was born in Lexington, Kentucky and still calls the Bluegrass State home. He is one of 6 brothers and 2 sisters, most of whom still live in Kentucky.
He is married to Dana Daniels Ayers, who is the Choral Director at Stillwater HS and Organist at FUMC in Stillwater. They have three children, Travis, Allyson, and Delanie. Delanie is a Sophomore at Oklahoma City University, our United Methodist University.
Reverend Ayers attended Oklahoma City University, and majored in both Religion and Psychology. He attended Phillips Graduate Seminary as a Broadhurst Scholar and earned the Masters of Divinity degree. He served on the President’s Selection Committee for the University and the Graduate Seminary and was elected President of the Graduate Seminary Senior Class.
He was ordained as an Elder in the United Methodist Church in 1976 and has served in ministry continually, in both full-time and part-time appointments.
He has served the Weatherford UMC as Campus Minister on the Southwestern campus, followed by appointments to Walter, Holdenville, and Tulsa, St. Marks.
In 1991, he graduated from Emory University with a Masters of Theological Studies.
Rev. Ayers enjoys playing guitar and banjo, traveling internationally, riding horses, and watching high school students perform in athletics and on stage. His favorite color is red. Favorite food is Thanksgiving dinner. He loves ice cream, poetry, basketball, outdoor concerts, and Jesus.
